Report from Steve Fracy
The first annual Dan Fisher Memorial Trial was held today (Sunday, October 25,
2008) by the ISTC at its
Shawnigan Lake property. It was an amazing day with beautiful sunshine - not
typical of late October on the West Coast. Unfortunately, a rather light
turnout of riders attended, on a course that was layed out by the father son
team of Mark and Jesse Curtis. They did a superb job and hopefully their
efforts were not lost on the 23 riders who did attend.
There were three riders taking the Beginner/Nov/Junior loop, all of whom were
from the Saltspring Island contingent. Not sure what happened with them, but
the score sheet shows them all DNFing.
In the Intermediate class, Matt Fracy showed continued improvement after a
summer of riding US Nationals and PNTA events, taking a comfortable win.
In the Senior Intermediate class, a rare appearance by some sandbagger riding
an old twinshock bike (yours truly) squeaked out a win against perennial
favorite Dave Fair. Third place went to another vintage bike rider who rode up
a class and showed the boys how to do it - Dave Bissenden on his old TY 250.
In what is usually the most competitive class of the day, Senior Sportsman,
Dave Nunn, mounted on his brand new GG 250 Raga, took home the win ahead of
Phil Plasterer.
In the Sportsman class, Devon Dargis continued his dominance and easily won.
Hopefully 2009 will see Devon step it up and take on the Expert class.
In the Expert class, Will Duggan continued his dominance with a convincing win
over young Thomas (call me Tom) Cordner. Third was Andrew Watson.
Thanks again to the committee for an excellent job and thanks to everyone who
came out to ride, and to remember Dan Fisher.
